Pryderi

In Welsh mythology he was the son of Pwyll and Rhiannon. He disappeared shortly after his birth (snatched from his cot by one of his Rhiannon's rejected suitors) and was bought up under the name of Gwri or 'Golden Hair'. He returned 7 years later and Rhiannon renamed him Pryderi.

When Pwyll died Pryderi succeeded him as lord of Dyfed, he gave his mother in marriage to Manawydam, son of a Welsh sea god. At the wedding banquet there was a peal of thunder and a mist fell. When it cleared, the land was desolate; people, animals and crops were gone. Pryderi, his wife Cigla, Manawydam and Rhiannon were alone. After many years of wandering they came across a ruined castle in which they found a golden bowl attached by chains to a marble slab. When Pryderi went to pick it up his hands stuck to it and he was struck dumb.

Rhiannon tried to save him and they both disappeared into another mist.
All these events turned out to be caused by an enemy of Pryderi's father Pwyll.
Manawydam discovered the truth when he was about to hang a mouse for eating his corn. The creature turned out to be the wife of Llwed, an old enemy of Pwyll who had been transformed, along with her warriors into mice.
