Newgrange

The only Irish stone-age cairn to be excavated. The interior is aligned to the sunrise of the winter solstice. (21-22 Dec.) The triple spiral is carved on a stone at the entrance.

This is one of the earliest basic Celtic triskel designs. It was the fundamental symbol of belief for the ancient Celts, relating to the spirit, and represented the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Found at the legendary Midhe, the fifth province. Today in Co. Meath, Ireland. 3,500 BC.
