In Welsh mythology, Goewin was Math ap Mathonwy's foot-holder
(he could nor survive unless his feet were in the lap of a maiden);
she was raped by Gilfaethwy aided by his brother Gwydion.
Math was very angry at this dishonour to himself and to Goewin. In order
to make amends to Geowin, Math made her his wife. Taking his magic wand,
Math struck Gilvaethwy and Gwydion,
turning them into deers. He turned them out to survive as they could
in their new form, and to return to him in twelve months time.
