The Legend 5000 years ago, during the massive upheaval of the Ice Age, the lake was formed when it was cut off from the ocean, trapping Nessie's ancestors. Nessie is said to live in deep caves under the lake and is rarely seen. The first written report was in the 6th century, in a biography of Saint Columbas, and since then many stories of sightings have emerged over the centuries. Since the new road was built in 1933, hundreds of people have seen what they describe as a huge monster or sea serpent or half fish half dragon. Many scientific expeditions have tried to find evidence of the Monster, but the dark waters and Nessie's shyness has beaten them all.
